I. Welcome and Introductions

President Petlichkoff called to order the regular meeting of the Dearborn Federation of Neighborhood Association at 7:40pm on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 in the Mayor’s Conference Room. The Following members signed-in on the roster and were in attendance:

II. Approval of 09/07/11 Minutes

The DFNA minutes for September, 2011 passed.

III. Treasurer’s Report

The Balance, as read by Treasurer Nikodem, as of September 30, 2011 on the October report totaled $884.43. There was no change from August to September.

IV. Guest Speakers

Clayton Donnell and Jennie Hoshal, from Novi Insulation, Inc., spoke about energy efficiencies and some strategies to use in an effort to lower heating bills and safely insulate one’s home. He discussed the differences between a home performance contractor and an HVAC professional, and he highlighted the differences between an energy audit and not obtaining an energy audit.

He explained what rebates and tax credits currently exist on the state and federal level and provided an explanation on whether future incentives may or may not exist in ensuing years.

He reduced the troubles of heat loss to air infiltration and reducing air leaks in the house. He provided examples of materials used for insulation and responded to many questions regarding the newer products on the market, including green or recycled materials.

Mayor, Jack O’Reilly, from the City of Dearborn, spoke about Ballot Proposal 1, the operating millage, and proposal 2, the library millage & proposal 3, the Elimination of the Civil Service System.

V. Mayor’s DFNA Liaison

John Cascardo announced three town halls on security and ways to be safe; October 19th, 7pm at Bryant Elementary School; October 27th, 7pm in the City of Dearborn City Council Chambers; November 2nd, 7pm at the School Administration Building

VII. New Business & Neighborhood News

Tarek Baydoun announced $9.95 per month internet access for families on the free or reduced lunch program and declared that 75% of all Dearborn students qualify for this program. Comcast also rolled out a computer program where they will sell computers for $149.00, and will come out and train owners on how to use it. Glenn O’Kray, representing the Dearborn Historical Museum, explained a book project this organization is doing in an effort to document individual stories of residents, then sell the stories. The books will be ready for sale on November 5th. The deadline to submit a story is October 20th.
There will be a charity hockey game at UM-Dearborn Ice Arena on October 15th; it is a fundraiser. The teams will be Dearborn Firefighters v. Dearborn Education Foundation.
The Festival of Trees will begin on November 20th and end on November 27th.
The Dearborn Symphony will be having a performance on November 18th.
Nominations for the DFNA will be open in November, and the election will be in December.
Michelle Butler announced a child abuse and neglect prevention information session to be held on November 20th.
Glenn Savarese recommended having an open discussion on the Master Plan Workshop and its Report.
Michelle Butler announced the helpfulness of the NIXLE program.
